Further into England.

Saturday 8th June, nearly four weeks into the plod now, and my feet are holding up very well indeed. Liz's seem to have a few niggles, but she is doing well.

Today we had 17 miles to Little Salkeld from Talkin, and a very pleasant stroll it was. For hours we plodded along quiet, leafy lanes, hills rising a little on our left, with much very green farmland on the right - and a long distance view of the towering Eastern fells of The Lake District, as we approach the edge of that most beautiful of National Parks.

After some 12 miles or so, we came to the charming little village of Kirkoswald, where there was a little, that sold teas. With my flask empty, this was a must. Tea purchased, I asked the lady which was the quickest way to Little Salkeld, as the map was a trifle vague. Good job I asked, she - and a local chap who popped in the shop was I was there - gave me superb directions for a lovely walk to finnish the day with. From Ravendale Bridge, all the way to Little Salkeld, a lovely two hour pleasurable plod. Check these pics of The River Eden and the marvellous woodland.

We arrived in Little Salkeld in good time, 17 miles plodded, now at around 432 in total.

A cracking good pub!!!

On the Friday evening we had stayed in a fantastic family run pub in the delightful little village of Talkin. Superbly run by the Jackson family, Donald was away so his daughter Emma was in charge. Well, I have to say that already this one is going to take an awful lot of beating in "Milko's Best Pub's on the Walk" competition!!

The welcome was grand, the rooms were very comfortable, the food was excellent, the ale was marvellous, the service was exceptional and all with a lovely smile. Thank you so much Emma and all the staff!!
